Jacket Required changes receive upbeat response

The latest Jacket Required show – complete with a new layout and fresh brand focus - which took place at the Old Truman Brewery this week on 22-23 January, received an “upbeat response”, according to the show’s organisers.

With a shrunken show format featuring less brands, and perhaps lower show footfall as a result, the time for change and a move to the Saatchi Gallery for the summer show on July 22-23, 2020, could be good timing to give Jacket Required a proper refresh. However, many of the show’s exhibitors remained upbeat, citing “quality over quantity” when it came to buyer attendance.

The reworked layout focused on “showrooms”, which highlighted sustainable and streetwear brands, as well as the more premium menswear and footwear brands. The refreshed look featured white branded walls between exhibitors, which were well received for giving a more curated feel to the show.

Store buyers in attendance included those from retailers such as John Lewis, End Clothing, Urban Outfitters, ASOS, Article, The Projekt Store, Filati, Stuarts, Fenwick, Natterjacks, Sefton, Anthropology and Harvey Nichols.

Designer and owner of the Raeburn brand, Christopher Raeburn, commented: “We’ve found that there’s so much more conversation around what we’re doing around responsible design, the idea of remaking, recycling and reducing. We’re proud that Jacket Required has been so supportive in what we’re doing, it’s a really natural alignment.

We’re really pleased and proud with the space that we have here, and we’ve met some really good people. For us, exhibiting at Jacket Required is a bit of a no-brainer. It’s an opportunity to meet directly with all of the amazing British stores and press that we have around the country and build the momentum.”

Speaking about the summer move of the show to the Saatchi Gallery, ASOS buyer, Alice Woods, said: “It is exciting that Jacket Required is moving to the Saatchi Gallery. It’s good to be specialist and, as a buyer, it’s great to see a concentrated selection of premium menswear brands.”

Jacket Required event director, Adam Gough, added: “Firstly, I want to say a huge thank you to everyone on the team, our official sponsor Klarna, and to all our incredible brands who have helped create a successful and inspiring show. It’s been positive to hear such great feedback on the changes we’ve made to the show, and we are feeling really upbeat about our future at the Saatchi Gallery.”
