It's never too late to start a new venture, says David Watts

David Watts

As the playwright George Bernard Shaw said, “Youth is wasted on the young”. A wry and funny quote and a sign of our modern times. It suggests a perspective one comes to later in life, when young people who complain so many simple things are just too hard to do.

It's never too late to begin that project we have put on the back burner, or claimed we just "didn't have enough time" to start.

It's not widely known that oak trees only begin to produce acorns when they are 50 years old!  So for anyone feeling their age or thinking they are "too old" to begin again, please note the following:

Harland Sanders (better know as Colonel) was in his 60s when he started Kentucky Fried Chicken.

Charles Darwin was 50 when he wrote On the Origin of the Species.

Frank McCourt, a school teacher at 66 wrote Angela's Ashes and won a Pulitzer prize the following year.

Julia Child was nearly 50 when she wrote her first cookbook.

Ray Kroc, a 52 year-old old milk-shake machine salesman turned a small chain of restaurants into what would become McDonald's.

A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada founded the Hare Krishna movement when he was 69, with $7 to his name.

Henry Ford didn't produce the Model T Ford car until he was 43.

John Pemberton didn't invent Coca-Cola until he was 55.
