Is the Apple Watch really "wearable" technology?

David Watts

Never underestimate the power of a singular creative vision.  This is what comes to mind when I think of the former CEO of Apple, Steve Jobs. The man did have quite a reputation, and apart from his laser sharp creative vision, was also feared and loathed in equal measures by many. That said, under his leadership, he led Apple to be the most valuable company in the world.

Then came the Apple Watch and the world was caught up in the pre-launch media frenzy. A carefully orchestrated global PR push by the company particularly embraced the fashion industry, after the company had brought into the fold the former CEO of Burberry Angela Ahrendts as Senior Vice President of Retail and On-line sales.

One interesting factoid; it’s been reported that Ahrendts had to issued an in-house video to all Apple employees, explaining the rationale behind the Watch launch. Ahrendts told employees that the Apple Watch was only available online due to global demand exceeding supply and that there would be no in-store launches.

Is Apple in danger in putting all of its "apples" in one basket with this product? Is the Watch actually wearable tech at all? Is it fashion? I think not.

I personally feel it’s the singularly most un-sexy, non-cool product Apple have ever designed and I still hold the view that if Steve Jobs was alive today and still running Apple, this Watch would never have made it to market!
