Yves Saint Laurent
Founded by legendary designer Yves Saint Laurent and partner Pierre Bergé in 1961, Yves Saint Laurent is a French luxury fashion house. It is considered to be one of the world’s most pre-eminent fashion houses, well known for its modern and iconic pieces, such as its tuxedo and safari jackets for women.
Yves Saint Laurent was, in 1966, the first to popularise ready-to-wear in an attempt to democratise fashion and, as well as clothes and accessories, in 1978 it launched its own cosmetics line. In 1999, the fashion house was bought by Gucci and is now part of the Kering Group.
Saint Laurent himself died in 2008 having stopped fronting his house in 2002. Subsequent designers to front the house include Tom Ford, Stefano Pilati, Hedi Slimane and, currently, Anthony Vaccarello. It is one of Kering’s most successful labels.
