Founded by Arthur Lasenby Liberty in 1875, Liberty is an iconic British department store selling luxury goods including clothes, cosmetics and fragrances, jewellery, accessories, homeware and is known for its own label floral and graphic prints. These often feature on its many collaborative projects which have included tie-ups with brands such as Nike, Dr. Martens, Barbour, Vans, Manolo Blahnik, Superga and Drew Pritchard of Salvage Hunters.
The store was owned until recently by private equity house BlueGem (also majority shareholder in Jack Wills), who, after acquiring Liberty for £32m in 2010, invested significant sums in a major menswear revamp and a remodelling of its womenswear offer. BlueGem sold its controlling stake (though to around 40%) to a private-equity led consortium headed by Glendower Capital in a deal that was said to value the store at £300m.
CEO Adil Mehboob-Khan was appointed from Luxottica in 2018.
