Description:

Gildan is one of the world's largest vertically integrated manufacturers of apparel and socks. Gildan’s brand portfolio includes its own label Gildan, Anvil, Goldtoe, Secret, Silks, Kushy Foot, Therapy Plus and Peds. Its printwear division includes Gildan, Anvil, Comfort Colors, Alstyle and New Balance (which it produces under license).

In 2017 the Canadian group won the auction process to acquire the brand and certain assets from American Apparel. Gildan had to up its initial bid of $66m to $88m to secure the deal after other companies, including Amazon, Forever 21, Next Level Apparel and brand licensor Authentic Brands Group LLC all showed interest in the brand.

The deal does not include any of the American Apparel retail stores, however in addition to the assets Gildan separately gained purchase inventory from American Apparel.
