Founded by French designer Christian Dior in 1946, DIOR is one of the world’s most renowed luxury accessories, ready-to-wear, beauty and fragrance houses. Part of LVMH, it also creates haute couture, under the Christian Dior Couture division. The house made its mark in fashion and i the wider public consciouness with Iconic collections such as the “New Look” from 1947 - a silhouette characterised by a small, nipped-in waist and a full skirt falling below mid-calf length, which emphasised bust and hips (it is a look that still informs its collections today).
Although largely for women, the company also operates the Dior Homme division for men, currently under the stewardship of British designer Kim Jones, and the baby Dior label for children's wear. The womenswear is under the creative direction of Italian designer Maria Grazia Chiuri, the first woman to hold the position in the brand’s 70-year history.
Apart from Dior himself who passed away at the age of 52 in 1957, some of fashion designs biggest names have helmed the house including Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferre, John Galliano and Raf Simons.
