Balenciaga is a Spanish luxury fashion house founded by Cristóbal Balenciaga in 1917 and became known for its bubble skirts and odd, feminine, yet "modernistic silhouettes”. The fluidity of the brand’s silhouettes made history by manipulating the relationship between clothes and women's bodies. The label is also known for its innovative use of fabrics, which included heavy fabrics, intricate embroidery, and bold materials.
The company is now part of conglomerate Kering where stablemates include Gucci, Saint Laurent and Pomellato. Creative director Demna Gvasalia has led the brand to new-found popularity among millennial luxury consumers with its off-beat styling that draws from the Balenciaga heritage but brings it band up to date.
