Created in 1992, the British luxury fashion house takes the name from its founder, designer Lee Alexander McQueen. The brand’s early collections developed its reputation for controversy and shock tactics, due to lavish and unconventional runway shows and out of the ordinary clothes.
In 2000 McQueen signed a deal with Gucci Group (now Kering) to develop his own label further (and to free him from his contract with Givenchy). In 2006, the company launched a lower price diffusion line called McQ. Promoted as a denim line, the focus of McQ is a youthful target market and it carries men's and women's ready-to-wear and accessories.
Alexander McQueen sadly passed away in 2010 and was succeeded by his long-term collaborator Sarah Burton.
Turnover not broken down by Kering. Group recorded revenues of €2.1bn in 2018.
