According to checks made by Reuters, at least six independent Nike stores in Russia have remained open despite the brand announcing that it had temporary closed all of its local outlets.

The checks were made on Friday 11 March and followed Nike's announcement on 3 March that it would temporarily close all its Russian stores and shut down all operations in the country.

Reuters added that it could not immediately verify the total independent partner stores that were open on the 11 March.

According to the sportswear giant, the stores that remained open were owned and operated by independent partners. Nike's website states that of the 112 stores in the Russian Federation only 18 are currently "closed". A spokesperson told Reuters that the company was in the process of updating this.

Nike previously announced that it would be donating £750,000 to the United Nations Children’s Fund and the International Rescue Committee to support relief efforts. The spokesperson further added that the company would continue to pay for employees in the closed stores.
