In Pictures: River Island teams up with PONY for exclusive collection
River Island has launched an exclusive collaboration collection with New York-based heritage sportswear brand PONY.
The collection, which is inspired by PONY’s athletic archive, features retro-inspired apparel including oversized jerseys, graphic tees and floral-infused activewear that blends classic athletic silhouettes with bold, modern prints across men’s and womenswear.
For women, there are wide-leg track pants in deep forest green, cropped football shirts, basketball-style shorts, sporty dresses, pedal pushers and sports bras.
Meanwhile, key men’s pieces include an oversized dual-branded denim jacket with matching shorts, track tops and baseball caps.
PONY, an acronym of Product of New York, was founded in 1972 and was owned by UK-based Pentland Group from 1991 to 2000. It was then sold to The Firm, an entertainment group from California, which relaunched it in 2001 with celebrity endorsements from the likes of Snoop Dogg, Justin Timberlake and Paris Hilton.
The brand was offloaded once again in 2003 to Global Brand Marketing, which acquired a majority stake in PONY along with Symphony Holdings.
These days, PONY is owned by New York-based brand management company Iconix International (formerly Iconix Brand Group).
The new River Island x PONY collection is now available on the UK retailer’s website and in selected stores, with prices ranging from £9 to £89.
