Celebrating Louis Vuitton’s latest colourful collaboration, Yayoi Kusama is bringing an immersive festival to London’s iconic department store Harrods.

Shortly after customers had waved goodbye to The Fabulous World of Dior at Harrods, visitors can now be met with colourful paint blobs, courtesy of Louis Vuitton X Yayoi Kusama.

The festival of fashion, art, and craftsmanship is running until 13 February, with Kusama’s multicoloured and immersive vision inhabiting the department store.

Yayoi Kusama is best known for her repeated painted dots, which represent infinity. Her first collaboration with Louis Vuitton was launched in 2012, with this second collaboration becoming Louis Vuitton's most in-depth partnership with a single artist to date.

The Street Becomes a Gallery:

The iconic exterior of the department store has become a canvas for Kusama’s artwork. At street level, 27 windows are devoted to the collection, meanwhile, the famous store facade is coated in the artist’s signature painted dots.

The Immersive Experience:

The artist has transformed distinct Harrods hot spots, the first being the Grand entrance, which features a unique installation of dots and spheres. As visitors step inside Harrods’ hallowed halls, they’re cleansed of the outside world and drenched in Kusama’s infinite motifs.

The Collection:

At Door 6, customers can browse the full collaboration of Louis Vuitton’s most emblematic pieces that are covered in Kusama’s painted dots, from the best-selling Alma to the Keepall.

Louis Vuitton’s artisans developed a special screen-printing technique which replicates the 3D texture of Kusama’s signature brushstrokes, allowing the touch of the artist’s hand to be felt.

The Exhibition:

Harrods also houses an interactive exhibition space. With total immersion in mind, Louis Vuitton ‘landscaped’ a corner of the store at Door 9, creating a multi-coloured playground of painted dots. The space replicates an art gallery with an amusement arcade. Here, customers can play on claw machines in an attempt to win Louis Vuitton x Yayoi Kusama stickers.

Similarly to the Dior exhibit, Harrods has also erected a themed bakery, offering dotted macarons, éclairs and choux buns inspired by the artist’s infinite motifs.
