H&M using innovative plant dyes for new collection

Camilla Rydzek
23 February 2022

For its third Edition collection H&M celebrates the progressive individuality and the power of personal expression with a menswear collection that uses a colour palette defined by the use of innovative plant dyes.

The 23-piece collection uses a pioneering technique where fabrics are treated with plant extracts, natural clay, bio-resins and natural enzymes to create organic colours without the use of harsh chemicals. The majority of pieces also featured mono-material compositions that can be easily recycled into new garments at the end of their life, aligning with the brand's circularity ambitions.

H&M menswear Edition collection

The collection combines elements of workwear, gorpcore and streetwear, focusing on utilitarian designs that are provide a certain aesthetic whilst remaining functional. By creating oversized silhouettes and fits, the traditional workwear garments were updated with contemporary lightness, the brand added.

Ross Lydon, Head of Menswear Design at H&M said: The starting point for each Edition collection is to challenge and innovate within our sustainability work. One of the keys this season was to include natural and plant based dyeing techniques. Classic menswear pieces, the great outdoors and utility references are combined to create a modern look that we are very proud of. ”

The collection will be available online and in selected stores 10 March 2022.
