H&M collaborates with Sabyasachi for new collection

H&M has collaborated with luxury fashion designer Sabyasachi – who has been dubbed "the Chanel of India" – to launch a new collection, Sabyasachi x H&M.

The collection will hit flagship stores and online in 48 markets on 16 April 2020, as well as be available on Myntra in India.

In the recent past, H&M’s list of designer collaborations has seen names like Giambattista Valli, Balmain and Versace. The Sabyasachi x H&M collab is historic as it marks the first time an Indian designer will be lending his name to a project of this scale. The designer, who is already a giant in the Indian fashion landscape, will have the opportunity with H&M to penetrate a wider market.

Sabyasachi said: "The collaboration with H&M gives us the opportunity to spread the Sabyasachi aesthetic to a wider audience in India and worldwide. Having done couture for the majority of my career, it is very exciting to bring that finesse of craft to ‘ready-to-wear’ and create whimsical and fluid silhouettes that bring relaxed sophistication to everyday life."

Sabyasachi hails from Kolkata and launched his label in 1999. Today he has grown the company to encompass couture, ready to wear, fine jewellery and accessories.

Ella Soccorsi, Concept Designer at Collaborations & Special collections at H&M added: "At H&M, we are thrilled to announce our collaboration with iconic Indian designer Sabyasachi, known for his dynamic use of indigenous crafts and textiles - a language so stunning, that it permanently altered the fashion and design landscape of the country."
