Henri-Lloyd adds Portsmouth to growing south coast store portfolio
British sailing brand Henri-Lloyd, which was founded in Manchester in 1963, is opening a new store at Portsmouth’s Gunwharf Quays outlet shopping centre on 11 June.
Adding to its current south coast store portfolio, which includes Lymington, Salcombe, Dartmouth, and Cowes on the Isle of Wight, Portsmouth is described as “a natural home for the brand”, located on the edge of The Solent, one of the UK’s most popular sailing areas.
The space reflects the brand’s heritage and ongoing evolution, presenting Henri-Lloyd in a way that connects past and present, and the new store will feature a curated mix of current performance collections alongside archive pieces.
Gunwharf Quays is a major waterfront retail and leisure destination overlooking Portsmouth Harbour and adjacent to the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, an area of HM Naval Base that is open to the public and contains several historic buildings and ships. The maritime setting benefits from high visitor footfall.
Henri-Lloyd’s Head of Retail, Stephen Ormerod, said: “We’re excited to open in Portsmouth, one of the UK’s leading sailing and coastal retail destinations.
“We already have a strong customer base in the area, and we look forward to showcasing both our current and archive collections to anyone passionate about life on the water.”
In 2022, Henri-Lloyd was acquired by the Monte Rosa Sport Group, based in Oslo, Norway. The change signalled “a new chapter in the brand's evolution”.
With investment and a focus on building a leading sailing apparel brand with top-class design, quality and operations, new retail openings in strategic locations are very much a key part of the growth plan.
