Harvey Nichols unveils upbeat Christmas windows

Luxury department store Harvey Nichols has unveiled its Christmas windows today, which it says were designed to "spread positivity".

The high energy displays were inspired by the AW17 fashion shows and pre-spring collections and employ a vivid colour palette, innovative lighting techniques and an "upbeat sentiment".

Lighting includes 382 rotating mirror balls and thousands of LED lights, vinyl stars and hanging decorations, and each window has a metallic foil, sequin and holographic background to create a "dazzling riot of colour".

"Themes of joy and positivity ran through the AW17 and SS18 shows, evoking a determination not to dwell on the uncertain times of the current climate," said Harvey Nichols head of visual display Janet Wardley.

"This inspired us to create a high energy scheme that uses dazzling colours, lights and shapes to entertain our customers – some of the vinyls are so bright that the team had to wear sunglasses during the install!” she added.

Key stats of the windows which feature at its stores in the UK and Ireland include:

- 5,370m of LED strip lights have been used within the Christmas windows, which is the equivalent in length to 478 Routemaster buses

- 5,101 hanging baubles, neon balls and stars, and over 2,000m of sparkly vinyl

- 3,555 vinyl stars

- 382 mirror balls

- 62 bespoke wigs have been made

- And the team have given 620 mannequins a manicure
