Harvey Nichols has announced the promotion of Chief Operating Officer Manju Malhotra to Chief Executive Officer, with immediate effect.

In her position as CEO, Malhotra will have responsibility for the luxury retailer's UK and international stores, as well as the group’s online business, where sales have more than doubled in the past two years and continue to be growing at double digits.

Manju will also oversee continued investment in the Group’s Online business, physical stores, alongside IT and logistics, in order to accelerate the growth and development of the Group as a luxury omni-channel platform with a unique global footprint.

Manju joined Harvey Nichols in 1998 and held a number of roles prior to becoming Group Finance Director in 2010. She was promoted to the role of Co-Chief Operating Officer in 2018, with joint responsibility for leading the business and then became the sole Chief Operating Officer in December 2019.

Manju will continue to report directly into Sir Dickson Poon, Chairman and owner of Harvey Nichols, and work closely with Pearson Poon, Executive Director, who is based in Hong Kong.

Manju Malhotra said in a statement: “I am delighted with my appointment to CEO. Whilst the short-term retail outlook is unpredictable, I am hugely excited about the future plans and opportunities for the fantastic Harvey Nichols brand.

Sir Dickson Poon added: “Over the past 22 years Manju has repeatedly demonstrated her ability in finance and through her time as Chief Operating Officer and in particular this year, she has also demonstrated her leadership in developing strategies and optimising business performance during one of the most challenging business environments in recent history.

"With our continued investment, I look forward to building a new long-term success for Harvey Nichols as a global luxury omni-channel platform with Manju.

In August it was reported that Harvey Nichols had appointed advisers from PwC as the COVID-19 crisis and lack of tourist footfall took its toll on the business.
