Harrods to open first store outside of UK in China
Harrods is set to open its first store outside of the UK in China to capitalise on the country's growing middle class.
The store will open in Shanghai's Pudong area next year and will be for the exclusive use of wealthy consumers and will be designed in the style of a Japanese villa.
According to The Telegraph, the move comes after the high-end department store staged successful pop-ups in the country. In addition Chinese consumers are the largest customer base for its Knightsbridge store; one in every £5 spent there is by a Chinese customer.
The news also comes after Harrods revealed it was to open a chain of high-end beauty stores outside of London across the UK, called H Beauty. The first will open in Lakeside with a second to follow in centre:mk, Milton Keynes.
