Hammerson appoints new Chief Financial Officer

Tom Bottomley
21 August 2019

Property company Hammerson has hired James Lenton as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO), and as an executive director as of 16 September, 2019.

Lenton assumes his role as CFO with effect from October 1, on an annual salary of £430,000. He recently left global insurer and investment business AIG where he was also CFO, delivering “new profitability and financing strategies” for the £5bn revenue business.

He succeeds Timon Drakesmith, the current CFO and managing director of premium outlets, at Hammerson who, as announced in May 2019, has decided to leave the company.

Commenting on Lenton’s appointment, chair of the board, David Tyler, said: “During his career he has demonstrated significant success in working with and managing complex organisations which are experiencing periods of substantial change.

“We expect his track record in this area, combined with his ability to bring a fresh perspective, to be very valuable to the on-going management and performance of Hammerson.”

The company has also recently announced that Simon Travis has been appointed to the role of group investment director and managing director of premium outlets. Premium outlets now account for 27% of Hammerson’s property portfolio and Travis reports directly to CEO, David Atkins.
