The ground-breaking Parisian boutique Colette has announced its intention to close its doors at the end of the year as its founder Colette Rousseaux has decided it is time "to take her time" 20 years after establishing the business.

Colette is based on Paris' Rue Saint Honore and has gained a reputation as one of the most influential concept stores globally combining fashion with culture and music. It also mixes breaking new designers with global power brands and its influence is such that designers often create exclusive product for the store. It is currently selling exclusive Colette collaborations with Balenciaga and Esteban Cortazar.

In a statement, which it also posted on Instagram, the business said it was in negotiations with Saint Laurent to take over the store, which it said could represent a great opportunity for its staff. "We are proud that a brand so prestigious, with whom we have collaborated regularly over the years, will take over our address," it said.

Until 20 December when the store is scheduled to close, Colette says "nothing will change" with the store. But the decision to close it was made because "Colette cannot exist without Colette".
