Landlord Grosvenor Britain & Ireland has joined the Race to Zero initiative, a global campaign backed by the UN to build momentum around the shift to a decarbonised economy ahead of COP26 in November 2021.

All Race to Zero members are committed to the same overarching goal of halving emissions by 2030 and achieving net zero emissions by 2050, at the very latest.

In London’s West End, Grosvenor supports 9,000 residents, 1,000 businesses and 50,000 workers every day. It also creates and manage sustainable neighbourhoods in London, Liverpool and across the South East of England.

The campaign is the largest ever alliance committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions. To date it has mobilised a coalition of entities with net zero initiatives representing 708 cities, 24 regions, 2,360 businesses, 163 of the biggest investors, and 624 higher education institutions.

As at May 2021, Race to Zero participants collectively cover nearly 25% of global CO2 emissions and over 50% of global GDP.

In 2020, Grosvenor Britain & Ireland published Think Zero, a detailed pathway to achieving net zero carbon, committing the business to reducing emissions, including scope 3, by at least 52% by 2030. The pathway detailed both the business’ route to net zero but also the tools already deployed to meet its goals.

Andy Haigh, Director of Climate Positive Solutions, Grosvenor Britain & Ireland commented: “From Governments to local businesses, Race to Zero provides a vital focal point for the global groundswell of activity on climate action.

“At Grosvenor, we strive to maximise our positive impact on communities, and to minimise negative impacts on the environment.  As part of this incredible movement, we’ll continually to seek ways to innovate and partner with tenants, suppliers and communities to build a sustainable, healthy and resilient future and encourage them to join us on this journey.”
