Grenson to launch deadstock line to make use of left over leather
British footwear brand Grenson is launching a new line called D Stock, which utilises left over leather, or "dead stock", with the first D1 design in the form of a tennis style sneaker using multi-pattern uppers.
Grenson’s ‘Sneaker 1’, which was its first foray into a trainer style a few years ago but is still part of the collection every season, retails at £225, but the D Stock sneaker is £150 – making it more accessible but also highly desirable, given they are one offs.
Launching this week on the brand's website, the new range consists of just 1,400 pairs in total, five men’s and five women’s styles.
Tim Little, Creative Director and CEO at Grenson, said: "D-Stock is our new sub brand of shoes that we make from dead stock leathers that the top tanneries have stuck on their shelves.
"It came about when, last year, we got a call from one of the European tanneries that we often use to say that they had some left over leather from one of the big famous luxury brands.
"It was beautiful leather and they wanted to clear it at a low price, otherwise it was going to waste. So, we thought why not ask other tanneries for their dead stock leather and create a new brand of beautiful shoes made from deadstock leathers at a cheaper price.
"The shoes can only be made in the quantities that the available leather allows and once they are gone, they are gone. The first shoe is a new sneaker where we have designed multiple panels to allow us to use lots of leathers in different quantities."
The leathers used are calf, nubuck and grain in five colourways, including dark brown and mid brown calf with tan calf accents, black calf with tan calf accents, white calf with blue nubuck accents, and khaki nubuck with brown nubuck and tan calf accents. All colourways feature the Grenson ‘Good Shoe’ sole.
