Graduate Fashion Week 2024 winners announced
Graduate Fashion Week, described as "the world’s largest showcase of BA fashion talent", which ran from 10-13 June at The Truman Brewery in East London, has announced the overall winners of its ‘Best of 2024’ competition.
Alice Daggett from Winchester School of Art won the coveted GFW24 Gold Catwalk Award, Patrik Platko from Coventry University was awarded the GFW24 Silver Award, and the Bronze Award winner was Elizaveta Lykova from Cambridge School of Visual Arts & Performing Arts University.
Daggett’s collection was inspired by her upbringing in Yorkshire. She said: "From a young age, I have loved women’s fashion and unique fabrics. Everything I design is to enable women to feel empowered through garments with timeless elegance. Most of what I design is inspired by what is around me."
Separately, the Designers at Debenhams Catwalk to Commercial Award was given to Eleanor McMahon from MFI at Manchester Metropolitan University.
There was also accolades for three international students, with the Gold Award going to Peter Shonoda from Savannah College of Art and Design, USA, the Silver Award going to Sasandi De Silva from the Academy of Design, Sri Lanka, and Bronze to Sumeng Sun from the College of Fashion and Design of Donghua University, China.
Established in 1991 by the Graduate Fashion Foundation, Graduate Fashion Week "continues to bridge the gap between graduation and employment" by bringing attention to the best new talent.
The organisation is backed by a number of global brands such as Debenhams, NEXT, Zalando and PVH Group. It also benefits from the wisdom of high profile ambassadors and lifetime patrons, including Zandra Rhodes, Christopher Bailey Nick Knight, Victoria Beckham, Caryn Franklin, Gok Wan and Christopher Raeburn.
