Givenchy steps into digital fashion with new NFT collection

Paris fashion house Givenchy is entering the digital fashion world with the launch of its NFT (Non-fungible token) collection, under the direction of creative director Matthew M. Williams.

In collaboration with New York City graphic artist Chito, the French luxury brand developed the collection as a companion to Givenchy’s Spring 2022 collection of clothing and accessories, the duo's initial collaboration.

The NFT collection includes airbrushed characters and symbols, which mirrors the spray-paint style designs of the Spring 2022 collection.

Matthew M. Williams, Creative Director of Givenchy, said in a statement: "I’ve been wanting to explore this new and exciting space of NFTs. The fact that Chito is already active in the ecosystem made it feel even more natural for us to collaborate on this limited series and bring our collective vision for Givenchy even further."

Givenchy teamed with the Polygon network, known for its minimal energy consumption, to bring the collection to life, while the Aura Blockchain Consortium were consulted on the development of the smart contracts for this NFT drop. The House has also worked with industry-leading and Paris-based Ledger, to ensure the provenance of the NFTs, which were minted directly from the Ledger Nano wallet of Givenchy.

The Chito x Givenchy NFTs will go on sale on NFT platform, OpenSea on 23 November, with the proceeds going to support Givenchy’s long-term preferred foundation, The Ocean Cleanup.
