Givenchy celebrates 100 years of Disney with new capsule collection

Givenchy is launching a new capsule collection, starring Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, to celebrate The Walt Disney Company's 100th anniversary.

Created by Walt Disney and his studio artists, Oswald is a first in the history of character animation and is known as the precursor to Mickey Mouse. Earlier this month, Walt Disney Animation Studios debuted an all-new Oswald short for the first time in nearly 95 years.

For the collaboration, Givenchy's Creative Director Matthew M. Williams has worked with Disney to create a collection of collectible statement pieces that "capture the spirit of adventure".

The collection fuses Oswald’s "mischievous, high-energy spirit" with Williams' own directional aesthetic for Givenchy. It takes inspiration from places around the world, including New York, Paris, Los Angeles, Shanghai and Tokyo.

Womenswear pieces include a varsity jacket, oversized shirt and sporty short ensemble, jeans, t-shirts, hoodies, tank tops and sweatpants. Whilst menswear includes a varsity jacket, shirt, t-shirts and tracksuit ensemble.

The collection also features collectible accessories, including tennis shoes, totes, small cross-body bags, card carriers, phone cases, earphone cases and caps.

To celebrate the campaign, the partnership is launching a mixed reality short produced in collaboration with Walt Disney Animation Studios and art director Julian Klincewicz.

The short features Madelaine Petsch, Amber Liu and Alton Mason enjoying an adventure alongside the Lucky Rabbit. The journey begins at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles, and moves through Shanghai, New York, Tokyo and Paris, where Oswald ends his trip at the House of Givenchy.

In addition, Snapchat users can access an Oswald Sky Painter AR lens, which allows users to paint the sky and highlights the five cities of Oswald’s Givenchy journey. The lens will become shoppable and link to the Givenchy website on 30 December 2022.
