Heritage British tailoring business Gieves & Hawkes, which was acquired by Frasers Group in November 2022, has reopened its historic flagship store at No. 1 Savile Row following an “extensive refurbishment”.

The newly refurbished 7,000 sq ft store has been designed with a clear focus on preserving the character and heritage of the Grade II-listed building while creating a more contemporary and welcoming environment for clients.

The store will showcase the full breadth of the Gieves & Hawkes offering across bespoke, made-to-measure, ready-to-wear and military.

Michael Murray, Chief Executive Officer of Frasers Group, said: “This next chapter for No. 1 Savile Row reflects our confidence in the future of Gieves & Hawkes and our ongoing commitment to British luxury.

“As the home of one of the world's most established tailoring houses, we are excited to continue celebrating Gieves & Hawkes' heritage while evolving the experience for a new generation of customers. As we continue to strengthen our diversified luxury portfolio, Gieves & Hawkes holds a distinctive position at the intersection of craftsmanship, culture and modern luxury.”

The aesthetic of the interior of the refurbished store draws upon Gieves & Hawkes’ longstanding naval and military heritage, with bespoke joinery, furniture and display pieces incorporating subtle rope motifs reminiscent of British naval uniforms.

British craftsmanship has been central to the project, with the refurbishment sourced, designed and manufactured in Britain, from the stone, timber flooring and architectural joinery to the furniture, metalwork and upholstery.

Jason Gerrard, Managing Director of Gieves & Hawkes, said: “The made-to-measure department has been expanded and reimagined to offer a more generous and luxurious environment, while the historic Robert Gieves Room on the first floor has been transformed with a newly curated installation of artwork and archival material.

“Developed with Adam Ellis Studio, the display brings together imagery and ephemera tracing the evolution of Gieves & Hawkes from its origins in 1771 to the present day.”
