Gap to close York city centre store

28 August 2019

Global fashion giant Gap is to close its city centre store in York, posting signs in its Davygate shop’s windows, stating: "All stock reduced! Store closing sale."

Gap is the second retailer to announce a move out of the city centre in a matter of weeks after Van Mildert, which announced it would close in September 2019. Burton and Dorothy Perkins are also due to close at the end of September as part of a company voluntary arrangement (CVA) for the Sir Philip Green retail empire, Arcadia.

The Gap store is due to close 4 October 2019, with the promise that there will still be a Gap store at the York Designer Outlet near Fulford.

Gap announced earlier this year that it was to shut more than 200 stores worldwide amid plunging sales, but did not say where or when they would be closing.
