Ganni steps up on sustainability with Infinited Fiber partnership

Danish contemporary brand Ganni is expanding its sustainability efforts with the announcement of its partnership with circular fashion and textile technology group, Infinited Fiber Company.

The partnership allows the fashion brand to use the Finnish group's regenerated textile fibre, Infinna, for its future garment production.

Made from cellulose-rich textile waste including discarded textiles, used cardboard and rice straw, the unique virgin-quality regenerated textile is locally sourced in Finland from waste that would have ended up in landfills or burned. The textiles are broken down by Infinited Fiber Company and regenerated into new textile fibers, which can also be blended with other fibres such as viscose.

The Infinna fabric, which contains zero micro-plastics and can be recycled numerous times, is also used by global fashion brands including outdoor apparel company, Patagonia and Indonesian viscose giant, Sateri.

Kirsi Terho, key account director for Infinited Fiber Company said: "Ganni is known for its forward-leaning approach to sustainability. Our environmental values are aligned, and we are absolutely delighted to be working with them to add our regenerated Infinna fiber to their portfolio of innovative materials."

Ganni currently uses more than 70% certified organic or recycled materials across its collections and has committed to ending its use of animal leather by 2023. The brand also offers rentals through its platform Ganni Repeat, in-store repairs and has committed to launching resale options from 2022.

Nicolaj Reffstrup, founder of Ganni said: "At Ganni we seriously believe that textiles are the new plastics so we need to go fully circular to survive long-term. Infinna is an exciting addition to our collections and takes us one step closer to creating more responsible collections. We need more transformative and innovative solutions like this, that increase the value of textile waste instead of the other way round."

Ganni said in its statement that the products are yet to be confirmed, but are expected to launch in 2022.
