Gabriela Hearst to leave Chloé after three years

Designer Gabriela Hearst is expected to step down as Creative Director of Chloé after presenting her final collection for the brand this autumn.

Hearst's SS24 collection for Chloé will reportedly be her last, according to WWD. She will then leave to focus on her eponymous label, which was founded in 2015.

The Uruguay-born, New York-based designer was appointed as Creative Director of Chloé in December 2020, taking over from Natacha Ramsay-Levi. She made history as the first female designer with a multi-cultural heritage to take the helm of a Parisian fashion house.

As Creative Director, Hearst has been responsible for introducing a more sustainable focus to Chloé, including the luxury brand's B Corp certification in October 2021.

Chloé was launched by Gaby Aghion in 1952 and many famous designers including Karl Lagerfeld, Martine Sitbon, Stella McCartney, Phoebe Philo, Clare Waight Keller and Natacha Ramsay-Levi have all held the role of Creative Director.

The news coincides with the brand's partnership with Angelina Jolie's new company, Atelier Jolie.

The actress and designer have co-designed a womenswear collection, consisting mostly of eveningwear inspired by perennial pieces from Jolie’s own wardrobe.

Everything has been produced with deadstock and low-impact materials, while the collection will also showcase the work of the artisans involved.

"The capsule collection spotlights authentic women-to-women connections and honours both brands’ respective commitments to improving social and environmental sustainability with greater transparency and accountability," Chloé said in a statement.
