Four people were arrested as Harrods was swarmed by large crowds of young people on Saturday 5 December.

The Metropolitan Police were called to the iconic department store in London’s Knightsbridge after hundreds of people gathered outside the store without social distancing or wearing face coverings.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “Four males were arrested in total - two for affray, one for breach of COVID regulations, and another for a public order offence and breach of COVID regulations.”

One staff member told TheIndustry.fashion: "We were already restricting entry at the store and the group tried to force their way in, which caused some chaos. Even when my shift finished and I had left, they were still gathering outside drinking and beer bottles were being thrown around."

Police arrived at the scene shortly after 1pm but photographs taken at after 5pm showed crowds were still crammed outside laughing and speaking to door staff.

A spokesperson for Harrods added: "As this is a police matter and took place outside the store we are unable to comment on details, however at Harrods we have significant measures in place to ensure the absolute health and safety of our colleagues and customers inside the store.

"This includes the mandatory wearing of face covering at all times, strict capacity limits and restrictions on groups of more than six entering, with under-18’s always accompanied by an adult.

"Our security and retail teams implement these policies at entrances throughout the store and we will continue to deny entry to anyone who does not adhere to these guidelines".
