Former ASOS CFO joins board of JD Sports

Former ASOS CFO Helen Ashton has joined JD Sports Fashion as non-executive director after the sports and fashion plc pledged to bring more diversity to its board.

Ashton, who stood down from ASOS in in March 2018, has 30 years of experience not only in digital retail, via ASOS, but also in supermarket retail and banking through executive roles at ASDA, Barclays and Lloyds, as well as CEO positions in high growth private equity backed businesses.

Chairman Peter Cowgill commented: "Helen brings a significant amount of retail, digital and financial experience. Helen will take up the role of Audit Committee Chair and will play a crucial role on the Board as we embark upon a period of transition to a new audit firm.

"The Directors of JD are delighted to welcome Helen to the Board and are encouraged by the progress that has been made in strengthening the Board with the appointment of new members with extensive skills, experience and expertise, for the benefit of all stakeholders."

The company has pledged to split Cowgill's role of chairman and CEO and a search is underway to appoint a CEO.
