Footfall rockets over 200% as UK retailers reopen

The much talked about pent-up demand was evident this morning as shoppers flocked to the reopened shops – with footfall up to 10am across all UK destinations up +218.2% week on week.

Footfall in shopping centres saw the biggest rise, up +339.7%, while footfall in high streets was up +232.8% and footfall in retail parks jumped +58.2%, according to the latest data from retail experts Springboard.

Footfall across all UK destinations up to 10am on Monday 12 April, 2021 – compared to Monday 13 April, 2020, was up a massive +505.1%.

Week on week, Central London saw footfall rise +230.4% (up to 10am), while coastal towns saw a rise of 176.2%, historic towns jumped +199% and market towns saw an increase of a staggering +354.6%, as curiosity and the desire to get out early to shop gripped the UK this morning on the grand non-essential retail reopening day.
