Footasylum's VP of International Dan Moneypenny steps down
Footasylum's Vice-President of International Dan Moneypenny has left the business after three years. The departure comes as the streetwear retailer expands its UK footprint.
“I’m incredibly proud of everything we achieved, and so grateful for the support I received from all of my colleagues, and especially my team,” Moneypenny wrote in a post on LinkedIn announcing his departure from the company.
“From a personal perspective, an opportunity presented itself and it was something I couldn’t turn down, and I cannot wait to get started.” He did not share further details on what that opportunity is.
Moneypenny joined Footasylum as Director of Wholesale in August 2023 and was promoted to Vice-President of International in November 2025. Prior to joining Footasylum, Moneypenny was Director of Wholesale at Castore, following eight years at Pentland Brands, where his last role was Head of Sales for Sports Fashion.
Moneypenny was associated with Footasylum’s partnership with Apparel Group, which was announced in December 2025 and set out plans to open 40 stores in the Gulf Cooperation Council region within five years. The region includes the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman, and would mark the retailer’s first move into physical retail beyond the UK.
A Footasylum spokesperson commented: "We can confirm that Dan Moneypenny has left Footasylum. We’d like to thank him for his contribution to the business and wish him all the best for the future."
The announcement follows the Rochdale-headquartered Footasylum reopening its upgraded 17,178 sq ft Trafford Centre store on 27 June.
The retailer also opened a 4,000 sq ft store at Cyfarthfa Shopping Park in Merthyr Tydfil, Wales, in June, and throughout 2026 has opened stores in Manchester Arndale, Glasgow’s Silverburn Shopping Centre and Darlington’s Cornmill Centre.
Footasylum has also expanded HSBC UK funding from £35 million to £60 million to support the store roll-out programme and increase warehousing capacity, and bought British streetwear brand Trapstar out of administration in what was described as a “strategic partnership” - aimed at supporting the brand’s future growth and expanding its retail presence
Footasylum brings together footwear, apparel and accessories ranges from both third-party brands such as Nike, Adidas Originals and New Balance, as well as Footasylum-exclusive labels Monterrain, Forena and Dripmade.
The retailer, which was acquired by Aurelius in August 2022, reported revenue of £349.5 million for the year to 25 January 2025, up 9.4%. Revenue from its exclusive brands more than doubled to £33.7 million, accounting for 10% of group sales.
Hannah Mercer joined the retailer as Chief Executive in May. Previously she worked at Gymshark, where she was Global General Manager for Wholesale, Retail and Franchise.
