US footwear and sportswear retailer Foot Locker has opened a new 5,920 sq ft store in Barcelona with a focus on sustainability and innovative technology, which “sets a precedent” for future stores in Europe.

The “elevated retail experience” is located at in Plaza de Catalunya with the aim to provide customers with technology-driven experiences, including the ‘Test Your Knowledge Ultimate Sneaker Quiz’.

The new “community based” store utilises recycled materials, including mannequins created from reused sneakers.

Additionally, Foot Locker has partnered with several local artists from Barcelona including street artist and designer ‘Dirty’, who has created an in-store mural inspired by the city itself.

The store also features a new and improved ‘House of Hoops’ – a boutique area in partnership with Nike which has exclusive NBA licensed items. It is part of the Foot Locker ‘Raise The Game’ initiative, which is about supporting local basketball networks in Europe that help drives positive change within the community.

Susie Kuhn, SVP and General Manager at Foot Locker in Europe, commented: “This new store in Barcelona sets a precedent for us in Europe with its innovative technology for an improved customer experience, and design elements from local artists that showcase the diversity of the city and its vibrant youth culture.

“It also builds a deeper connection with our local community, providing them with a space that goes beyond the traditional retail space and makes visitors, locals and basketball fans active participants.”
