Premium multi-brand fashion chain Flannels has acquired the site of the former BHS store on the Channel Island of Jersey.

The group paid £18m for the property on King Street in St Helier and will open its new store before Christmas.

"We are very excited to be coming to Jersey, the latest opening within the Flannels expansion. Customers in St Helier will be able to buy some of the most sought-after designer products the high street has to offer. We’re also delighted to provide job opportunities to the local work force," the group said in a statement.

The store opening is expected to create 50 new job opportunities. The Jersey store was one of the final stores in the BHS stable which were closed over the weekend following its controversial fall into administration.

Flannels, which sells brands ranging from Saint Laurent to Gucci and Frame Denim, has 12 stores around the country including Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff, Leeds, Plymouth, Nottingham and Swindon and an e-store.

Owned by the Sports Direct group it is also about to open a new concept store in Southport which will feature a Sports Direct, USC, Flannels and an Everlast Fitness Club all at the same site. The 62,450 sq ft site is located on the site of a former Morrisons supermarket on Tulketh Street. The Flannels part of the development is due to open at the end of September while the rest were due to open this weekend.
