Fenwick MD David Walker-Smith stands down

Lauretta Roberts
14 March 2016

Fenwick Bond Street managing director David Walker-Smith has resigned after a three-year tenure. Fenwick is the second London department store to announce the departure of its managing director in less than a week after Harrods revealed last Thursday that Michael Ward would be stepping down in the summer.

Walker-Smith, who joined Fenwick from Selfridges three years ago, is credited with overseeing a number of innovative initiatives at the store including the overhaul of its footwear offer which was relocated from floor one to a new 4,150sq ft space on the ground floor, dubbed Shoe Corner. The beauty department too has been overhauled with new counters installed by Mac and Charlotte Tilbury.

“It has been a privilege to direct this historic store into its 125th anniversary year and to equip the business for a strong future. The time is right for me to exit stage left, knowing that the Bond Street store will go from strength to strength in its exciting next chapter,” Walker-Smith said.

Mark Fenwick, chairman of the family owned group which controls 11 stores of which Bond Street is the flagship, said Walker-Smith was "an inspirational and creative force" and wished him continued success.

No news of a replacement has been revealed yet.
