Fenwick has appointed ex-Lovefilm and Mothercare chief Simon Calver as chair, replacing interim chair Steve Barber.

According to Sky News, Calver's appointment was announced internally this week. It follows on from the appointment of former Harrods and Selfridge finance director John Edgar as CEO last year.

Calver's expertise in digital businesses is said to have been one of the driving forces for his recruitment to the luxury chain, which reopened its doors last Monday.

Family-owned business Fenwick dates its history back to 1882 and today operates nine stores including a flagship on London's Bond Street, with branches in Colchester, Brent Cross, Newcastle, Canterbury, Bracknell, York, Tunbridge Wells and a Bentalls store in Kingston upon Thames.

As well as driving digital sales, Fenwick has been bringing in new brands across fashion and homewares. At Bentalls in Kingston upon Thames, menswear in particular has been revived with a number of new brands including a new section dedicated to sneakers and an installation from coveted streetwear brand Supreme.

Calver was CEO at Lovefilm until its sale to Amazon in 2011 and was CEO at Mothercare from 2012 to 2014, he has also been chairman of ChemistDirect.co.uk and Moo.com.
