Fashion sales soar 61.5% in first week of February

Total like-for-like fashion sales rocketed 61.5% in the week to 6 February, 2022, from a base of -15.49% for the same week last year.

The week’s result marks forty-eight consecutive weeks of positive total like-for-like sales for fashion, going back to the third week of March 2021, according to the BDO’s High Street Sales Tracker.

Total like-for-like sales climbed by +44.04% last week from a depressed base of -7.52% for the corresponding week last year, while total in-store fashion like-for-like sales increased by 6,707% on the same week in 2021 when non-essential retail stores were forced to close in Lockdown 3.

Total in-store sales increased by 3,851% from a base of -81.28% for the same week last year, while total non-store like-for-like sales dropped by -18.93% from an impressive base of +179.93% for the same week last year – when shopping online was the only option.

Overall footfall for last week jumped by 144.2% compared to the equivalent week last year. Footfall on the high street climbed by 169%, and increased by 183.3% in shopping centres and +49.6% in retail parks.
