Fashion sales continue to soar

Tom Bottomley
04 March 2022

Total like-for-like fashion sales surged +57.43% for the week ending 27 February 2022, from a weak base of -9.81% for the same week last year when the UK was still in Lockdown 3.

The week’s result marks 51 consecutive weeks of positive like-for-like sales for fashion going back to the third week of March 2021.

In-store like-for-like fashion sales increased by 7,318%, compared to -91.56% during the same week last year when non-essential stores were still forced to close, according to the latest data from the BDO High Street Sales Tracker.

Total like-for-like sales across fashion, lifestyle and homewares rose by 59.20% compared to the same week last year - which was an unsurprising -7.11%, maintaining a resilient run which was supported by an improvement in overall footfall of +126.4%.

Shopping centres fared the best with footfall at +174.3%, followed by high street footfall at +143.5% and retail parks at +38.9% compared to the same week in 2021.
