Fashion Minority Report launches new platform to promote diversity

Fashion Minority Report (FMR), an organisation dedicated to helping businesses create an inclusive workplace culture, has launched a platform to connect young diverse talent with big brands.

Since being launched by Daniel Peters in 2020, FMR has become an important partner of leading fashion brands in re-shaping the face of the industry, championing diversity and inclusion as one the most important changes.

FMR has now launched The HUB, a learning and career developing resource for young talent to access opportunities that will enable their ability to thrive. It provides a solution to the issue of connecting brands with young and rising talents, providing digital and physical resources that combine insightful interviews with industry professionals, toolkits, guides and directories that are easily accessible and understandable for some minority groups.

FARFETCH, Browns, British Fashion Council, John Lewis & Partners, ASOS and JOSEPH Fashion have all agreed to take part in the first stage of The HUB. FMR will also encourage more brands to support the HUB and pledge their commitment to increasing diversity, inclusion and equity.

Currently, representation of ethnically diverse talent only accounts for roughly 11% of roles currently occupied in the creative sector, and if more reflective of the UK population at large should be increased to a standard of 17.8%.

Daniel Peters commented: "2020 was the first time that the world, and the fashion industry with it, began to acknowledge the challenges that minority talent face in and out of the workplace. But two years on, I still see a distinct lack of representation in the creative sector, so the HUB will bridge that gap by nurturing a future workforce of diverse industry vanguards alongside our brand partners."

Caroline Rush, CEO at British Fashion Council, added: “We are delighted to partner with Fashion Minority Report on The HUB and support further access to the fashion industry for all. This partnership reinforces our organisation’s commitment to lead the way when it comes to opening doors to young talent from minority backgrounds who might not always have the same opportunities to succeed and thrive.

It is an important part of the BFC’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion strategy and we encourage more brands to join to make the fashion industry one that we are all truly proud to be a part of.”
