Ex-John Lewis exec joins Matalan to drive digital push
Andreas Nicolaides, previously Director of Marketing Channels at John Lewis, has today joined Matalan as its new Director of Digital.
Nicolaides, who spent two years at the John Lewis Partnership, teased his departure back in August, writing on LinkedIn: "After an incredible two years at the John Lewis Partnership, I’ll be moving on in September. It’s been a real privilege to work with such talented, passionate people and to be part of a brand I love. Exciting things ahead, more to come soon…"
He has now revealed his next chapter: "I’m joining Matalan as Director of Digital! A brilliant British retail brand with huge heritage and ambition, and I’m looking forward to driving the next chapter of growth across digital and e-commerce. Really looking forward to reconnecting with Sarah Welsh and Alyson Fadil – very grateful for the opportunity. Let’s get started."

Andreas Nicolaides
Prior to his two year stint at John Lewis, Nicolaides held senior digital roles at N Brown Group, iProspect and MBNA. The Matalan move sees Nicolaides reunite with CEO Sarah Welsh and Chief People Officer Alyson Fadil. Both have been instrumental in steering the value fashion and homewares retailer through a period of transformation and renewed focus on digital growth.
His appointment comes as Matalan continues to modernise its operations and sharpen its digital proposition - a critical move in the highly competitive value retail sector, where rivals such as Primark, George at Asda, and Tu at Sainsbury’s are ramping up their own omnichannel offerings. Nicolaides’ background in digital marketing and e-commerce at John Lewis positions him to play a central role in driving Matalan’s next phase of growth.
