Ex-ASOS Global Brand Creative Director John Mooney has followed his former boss Nick Beighton to luxury fashion retailer MATCHESFASHION, taking up the role of Executive Creative Director.

Mooney has more than 20 years of experience in the industry and began his career at Alexander McQueen before moving to Topman at the then Arcadia Group. He joined ASOS in 2010 and was appointed as its first Global Brand Creative Director in 2017. In 2019 he was awarded an honorary doctorate in Art & Design, in recognition for his services to the industry, by Kingston University.

At MATCHESFASHION Mooney is reunited with former ASOS CEO Nick Beighton who joined the luxury retailer in July of last year. Beighton has been assembling his top team since and recently secured a further £60 million in backing from investor Apax Partners.

Commenting on his appointment, Mooney said: “I’m super excited to be joining MATCHESFASHION in my capacity at Executive Creative Director. I am looking forward to exploring, developing and renewing the brands creative strategy using my skill and knowledge to create a recognisable and differentiated identity for the MATCHESFASHION brand harnessing the creative power of the team and fully utilising the suite of platforms available to us.”

Beighton added: “John is a fantastic addition to lead our creative teams and I am looking forward to working together.  We remain focused on our ambition to be THE luxury destination for customers in the world. John brings a depth of experience and leadership that will be invaluable as we enter our next phase of growth.”

In September of last year, MATCHESFASHION appointed former Frasers head of luxury brands Carl Tallents as Chief Commercial Officer, while Stuart Hill was appointed as Chief Operating Officer. Hill joined from Farfetch but had previously worked with Beighton at ASOS.

Tallents had replaced Elizabeth Von der Goltz in the role of Chief Commercial Officer; she has since joined Farfetch as CEO and Chief Fashion and Merchandising Officer of luxury retailer Browns.

Founded as a boutique in Wimbledon more than 30 years ago, MATCHESFASHION now operates a global luxury platform, several stores in London and a townhouse-based fashion hub in Carlos Place Mayfair (pictured above).
