German luxury brand ESCADA has appointed Niall Sloan as its new global design director effective 1 August.

Sloan joins Escada from British brand Hunter where he has been global design director for four years and, prior to that, he spent 10 years at Burberry working with chief creative officer Christopher Bailey. Sloan's last role at Burberry was as head of the women's team at Prorsum.

Escada CEO Iris Epple-Righi said Sloan's experience at both Hunter and Burberry made him "a perfect fit" for the brand.  "Niall is a great creative talent who has the ideal experience, energy and vision to reinterpret the legacy of the brand in a relevant and contemporary way," she said.

"His 10 years in luxury at Burberry combined with his recent experience at a more contemporary and casual brand such as Hunter is a perfect fit for how we want to develop ESCADA. His unique experience across multiple areas including apparel, accessories, footwear and VIP dressing is also very relevant for us. We’re excited to have him on our team," she added.

Sloan will begin working with the ESCADA team on the AW18 collection but his first full collection for the brand will be for Resort 19. "ESCADA is a brand I have been fond of for many years. Its heritage is fun, bold and feminine with a strong point of view in luxury womenswear. I’m very excited to be to be a part of reshaping its future and can’t wait to get started.”
