Erdem launches debut menswear collection

London-based fashion label Erdem is expanding its core offerings with the launch of its first-ever mens ready-to-wear collection.

Known for his romantic womenswear fashion, designer Erdem Moralioglu has diversified his portfolio with an inaugural menswear collection inspired by the wardrobe of film director Derek Jarman and the paintings of English artist Patrick Procktor.

"I have always been interested in the conversation and exchange between male and female expression. As our womenswear collections have expanded, I’ve loved how male members of my team wear pieces in different ways," said Moralioglu, Erdem's founder and creative director.

"The boundaries between womenswear and menswear are ever more fluid and exciting. I have imagined my mercurial protagonist having a younger brother; he is wearing her clothes in his own way.”

The collection features shirts and knitwear in a range of relaxed and tailored silhouettes. Highlights of the offering include striped mohair sweaters in warm shades of yellow, cardigans washed in aged-wine, collarless button-down shirts and velvety corduroy pants in olive and powder blue.

The rest of of the wardrobe consists of cummerbunds (a broad waist sash), t-shirts, shorts, pants and bucket hats in a combination of rich colours and floral prints based on 18th-century etchings.

The collection is available now at its London store and on ERDEM’s website, from £395 for a Mohair jumper to £1,495 for a trench coat.
