Diesel has appointed former Balmain chief Massimo Piombini as CEO with effect from February 2020.

Piombini's departure from French luxury house Balmain was announced last week with former Zadig & Voltaire CEO Jean-Jacques Guével named as his successor.

At Diesel, which is the flagship brand of Renzo Rosso's OTB fashion group, Piombini will report to OTB CEO Ubaldo Minelli.

Rosso said of Piombini's appointment: "Diesel is an icon that changed the industry with its lifestyle approach, pioneering product and revolutionary communication, and a company that I recently took back to its roots, which is already giving very positive results. I wish Massimo to fuel its engine and take it where it deserves to be."

Piombini had been CEO at Balmain for three years and prior that he was with Valentino. In his new role he will be based at Diesel HQ in Breganze, Italy.
