Desigual launches Young Talents winning design

Desigual has launched a unisex hoodie designed by Hannamariam González, the designer who won the brand's Young Talents competition.

The Desigual x Young Talents competition is an annual fashion design challenge that the brand runs across ten international fashion schools.

This year, more than 500 entrants were challenged to create a bold design from the pattern of one of Desigual’s bestselling sweatshirts.

The winning entry was from Hannamariam González, a design student from London’s Central Saint Martins. Made from recycled polyester, Hannamariam’s garment reflects her interests as a designer, which includes her love of colour and hypnotic graphics.

The design had two guidelines. Firstly, it needed to fit the essence and attributes of the brand, which represents rebelliousness, non-conformism, diversity, optimism and using innovation as a vehicle for expressing creativity.

The second requirement was for the piece to be designed in 3D. In line with its commitment to digital innovation and reducing its environmental impact, Desigual has integrated this technique to help minimise its carbon footprint from prototyping processes.

Clara Delmuns, Desigual’s Product Director, said: “We advocate for authenticity and this fits perfectly with the risk-taking capacity of young people and their different way of looking at the world. We want to see the creativity that they can bring and give them the opportunity to have their talent appreciated at an international level."
