Depop names new Chief Operating Officer
Second-hand fashion marketplace Depop has promoted its Vice President of Strategy & Customer Experience, Chidi Onwudike, to the role of Chief Operating Officer.
Onwudike has been at Depop for over five years, having initially joined as Chief of Staff to the CEO in February 2021.
Prior to joining Depop, she spent almost three years at Javelin Group, firstly as Senior Retail Consultant and then as Retail Consulting Manager, predominantly focused on the online fashion and luxury sectors.
Commenting on her promotion on LinkedIn today, Onwudike said: "As I get ready to head back to work after becoming a mother, I’m really happy to be taking on the role of Chief Operating Officer at Depop.
“This feels like a big moment, both personally and professionally, and one I’m approaching with a lot of gratitude. Grateful for the brilliant people I’ve learnt from throughout my career, for the special year I’ve been able to spend with my daughter, for the people who’ve carried the load whilst I’ve been away and for the trust placed in me moving into this next phase.
“Looking forward to being back with the team and to building what comes next as we scale."
Last month, it was reported that Etsy is selling Depop to eBay for $1.2 billion (£890 million), just five years after it bought the business for $1.62 billion (£1.2 billion).
The all-cash deal is expected to be completed by the middle of this year, as eBay looks to accelerate its growth in the second-hand clothing market and expand its reach among Gen Z and Millennial customers. Depop will reportedly retain its name and branding.
