German footwear retailer Deichmann, which celebrates its 20th anniversary in the UK this year, has helped to raise just over £185,000 for children’s charity Barnardo’s through its summer-long ‘Best Foot Forward’ campaign.

The initiative included a school shoe donation scheme, the first of its kind in the UK for the retailer, helping struggling families “start the new school term with confidence”.

The nationwide campaign was supported by celebrities and their families, including TV personalities Sam and Billie Faiers, Jacqueline Jossa, Lydia Bright and Jake Quickenden.

The aim was to encourage families to get involved with fundraising activities, including Barnardo’s annual ‘Big Toddle’ sponsored walk, of which Deichmann was the headline sponsor, which took place from 28 June - 4 July, 2021.

The sponsorship helped the walk see a 24% growth in sign-ups compared with Barnardo’s last pre-COVID campaign, with 31,442 children taking part in this year’s ‘toddle’.

The shoe donation scheme provided new school shoes to 1,000 school children in 16 different regions and communities across the UK.

Samuel Deichman, Chairman of Deichmann UK, said: “Our partnership with Barnardo’s for Deichmann UK’s 20th Anniversary has been a great success and we are delighted to provide support for families most in need throughout the UK.

“Since the ‘Back to School’ campaign launched nationally at the end of July, it has been one of our busiest and most successful campaigns in the UK to date.”
