Decentraland to host inaugural Metaverse Fashion Week

09 February 2022

With digital fashion shows growing from a niche concept to becoming a mainstay in the fashion realm, virtual world platform Decentraland will host the first ever Metaverse Fashion Week in just over a month.

Scheduled to begin from 24 March to 27 March, MVFW will be publicly available from anywhere in the world, with no tickets required to view the lineup of luxury designs in the blockchain-based experience.

Fashion labels and investors will be able to purchase digital plots of land to facilitate virtual events such as fashion shows, concerts and after-parties.

Throughout the event, MVFW attendees will be able to purchase and wear digital wearables from brands for their customisable avatars. Additionally, some collections will also include a physical component to their MFW presentation, offering guests with the opportunity to purchase real-life designs.

Alongside the immersive mix of presentations, catwalk shows, showrooms and talks, Decentraland will also host a "fashion district", featuring pop-up stores which can be accessed through a smart device.

While the lineup schedule has yet to be released, possible contenders being touted include fashion houses who have invested in the metaverse such as Gucci, Burberry, Ralph Lauren and Balenciaga.

Sam Hamilton, Creative Director at Decentraland Foundation, told Vogue Business in an interview: "We want to help the onboarding process and push creativity and show everyone what is possible. We do this to show the community and other brands, 'Hey, Decentraland is a place for shopping, everyone is wearing cool clothes and brands can release on the platform.' It’s a way of bringing more people to the platform and making it more compelling for users."
