Debenhams to open stores in Wales and Scotland

Debenhams has announced its intention to open its stores in Wales and Scotland following a successful re-opening of some of its stores across England and Northern Ireland.

Non-essential retail in Wales is permitted to re-open on Monday 22 June with Scotland to follow one week later.

Debenhams has re-opened 88 stores in England this week and has said the remainder would follow soon after.

Following the announcement of the relaxation of lockdown in Wales and Scotland it has said it would open eight stores in Wales and six of its Scottish stores, with the remainder of the Scottish stores to follow in July.

Managing director Steven Cook said early trading in Northern Ireland and England had been encouraging. “After 10 days of trading in Northern Ireland and England, demand has been above plan, particularly for beauty, kidswear and summer fashion, and we have not seen any cannibalisation of our online performance.

“We look forward to welcoming Welsh and Scottish customers back to our stores in the coming weeks in the confidence that our customers and colleagues are finding our extra safety precautions reassuring without impeding their comfort or convenience,” Cook said.

Cardiff           Dumfries
